Fairtrade gold

Fairtrade gold, the name says it all: it is good gold. This type of gold is produced by miners who work under safe working conditions and receive fair wages for their work. Since this sort of sustainable gold became available in 2012, we use it in teh custom jewelry we make. Over time, Max Havelaar’s official  label “Fairtrade gold” has been discontinued. Alternatively, we sell gold mined under the same conditions. It just has a different name, namely fair-mined gold.

Buying Fairtrade gold

We at Mio are one of the first ones to sell fairmined gold in the Netherlands for sale. We are proud of it. Whether you are looking for a pair of gold wedding rings, or another special gold piece of jewelry. We can make it into fairtrade gold upon request. Does this mean that we also use “wrong” gold? No. All other gold we use is recycled, so you can choose with confidence. We believe that we cannot let our customers choose between good and bad.

Where does Fairtrade gold come from?

Fairtrade gold or rather Fairmined gold always comes from small-scale miners. The mines are located in the western part of South America. Most gold comes from Peru. But Colombia and Ecuador also have Fairmined certified mines. To be certified, a mine must meet strict requirements. The Alliance for Responsible Mining organization conducts research and provides advice to miners. Fairmined ensures the control of responsible gold mining and traceability from the gold mine to that beautiful ring on your finger.

Fairness above anything else

Mio makes it a priority to offer even more jewelery with sustainable raw materials. If precious stones and other metals with a quality mark are also for sale in the future, you can count on us to help you with this as well. Our jewelry is not only beautiful, but also honest. Isn’t that a nice bonus?
